The Foundation
Sustainability
We are a nonprofit entity, incorporated in the United States as a 501(c)(6) trade association. Our activities are funded through annual membership dues, which support our operations — including the upkeep of the free-to-access DOI proxy resolution service.
The DOI Foundation operates with an annual budget of approximately $1 million USD. All income is derived from yearly fees paid by Registration Agencies and Members. These fees are determined and reviewed each year by the Board.
Roughly 70% of our expenditures go toward operating and maintaining the infrastructure of the DOI System.
To ensure long-term stability, we maintain a reserve fund, which is managed by the Executive Committee and supervised by the Audit Committee.
Our goal each year is to achieve a modest net operating surplus, and we have successfully done so in most years. Below is a summary showing how this has evolved over time.
